Compare the installation with the agreed scope
Gather the accepted proposal and changes approved during the work. Go through the planned outlets and note what is installed, what has changed and what remains outstanding. This review works better with a prepared list than as a quick conversation while tools are being packed away.
In a partial renovation, identify the boundaries between new and retained sections. Taking handover of bathroom work does not automatically mean the whole home has been checked. A precise description prevents the record of what was actually reviewed from being lost months later.
Ask for checks to be recorded
DB HS provides for strength and watertightness testing of the water supply, operational checks of domestic hot water and drainage tests. The professional needs to specify the applicable procedure for the installation completed.
As the customer, you can ask for a clear record: the date, area or section checked, result and observations. You do not need to direct the tests or copy test pressures from another project. What matters is not confusing a visual check with the complete set of verifications planned for the work.
If an appliance has yet to be installed, clarify which checks have been possible and which will be completed afterwards. A phased handover needs to distinguish these stages so that an outstanding task does not disappear when the project is closed administratively.
Learn to recognise the installation you will use
Ask for an explanation of accessible valves, equipment and access panels. Check that you can locate them with the furniture already in place. If several people will look after a home, they should all be able to consult the same basic guide rather than rely on memories of a visit.
Note which care is the user's responsibility and which tasks need a professional. Instructions should relate to the installed product and the actual arrangement. A sales sheet for a similar model does not replace the manual for the equipment you have received.
Keep clearly labelled drawings and photographs
An updated drawing helps explain routes and zones. If a detailed drawing is not part of the agreed scope, ask what diagram or record can be provided. Photographs taken before closing up are more valuable when they identify the room, direction and date, rather than becoming mixed with hundreds of images without context.
Keep the references for pipes, fittings and appliances too. Manufacturers such as Geberit provide specific documentation for their supply systems; identifying the installed system makes the relevant information easier to find for future work. This documentation does not, by itself, demonstrate that the workmanship has been checked: the two complement each other.
Resolve outstanding items with clear responsibilities and scope
If an issue is noted, record it specifically: location, behaviour and the check still required. Avoid vague wording such as check plumbing. Agree who will attend to each item and how its resolution will be communicated, without turning an indicative date into a promise nobody has confirmed.
Aqualaga can assess the home's plumbing and drainage within the Red Málaga family. Including operating guidance and handover documentation in the quotation helps align expectations between homeowner, builder and installers before the work finishes.
More common questions
Does opening every tap prove the installation is sound?
It allows some operation to be observed, but does not replace the checks appropriate to the work. Ask the professional to explain which tests have been carried out and which parts they cover.
What documentation should I keep after a small renovation?
At least the scope completed, agreed changes, component references, relevant instructions and recorded checks. Even localised work needs to be distinguishable from the installation that remained.
